Urban Market
Brief
An upgrade of an existing open-air market junction, without a permanent enclosure the traders had explicitly rejected in an earlier scheme.
Problem
A prior proposal for an enclosed market hall was rejected by trader consensus — any new structure had to remain visibly and functionally an open market.

Spatial Concept
Infrastructure as architecture — the project's ambition is entirely in section and surface, not in enclosure.
Material Strategy
Galvanised steel canopy frames with a lightweight fabric membrane, permeable paving to manage monsoon runoff.
Environmental Response
Permeable paving eliminated seasonal flooding at the junction, previously the site's biggest complaint from traders.
Outcome
Trader association leadership cite the project as the first public intervention on the site that traders were consulted on and endorsed before construction.
